Behind the front

Almost everyday you see a piece of graffiti, normaly some pathetic meaningless scrawl on a tube,or scratched into a bus stop window ,with a fiat punto key no doubt, reading 'chad waz ere'. But what about the pieces we see everyday without taking notice, and the story behind them?

This piece was painted on a large fence seperating a field from a nearby wood next to the m40. Unfortunately it has been painted over by some less thought provoking piece ''team supreme''.How ever it used to read ''why do i still do this everyday?'' now to anyone that simply glanced at it they make think it is the writer talking about themselves. However put a bit of thought into the piece ,and its location alike, and you will realise it is about the commuters who pass it almost everyday. The artist is forcing them to think about why they make the journey everyday, why they go to work,is it for the neccesities or simply the wants?perhaps even provoking the business men/women to be jealous of this unknown anarchists freedom.

I saw this piece every time i went to visit my nan,and never truly appreciated it until it was gone. But i continued to turn my head and look through the rear windscreen to read the same text every visit. I guess this unknown artist has a large amount of credit for my interest in graffiti.

  1. That's a nice way of putting it. It also seems kind of defeatist to me. A little bit.

  3. That's really cool, actually. Nice that you realized the true meaning behind a piece of artwork like that.
